Acadia National Park Operating Hours & Seasons

A rocky portion of the coastline in Acadia National Park, Maine, USA.

Acadia National Park is open all year round, but many of the facilities in the park are not. When we say “open all year” that is, of course, depending on the weather. Many of the facilities and even the roads are closed during the winter time. Severe winter weather can cause road conditions to be extremely dangerous, in which case they’ll be closed at other times too, so it’s always best to check out the situation before you leave home for a visit to Acadia National Park in the winter, just to be sure that access is available.

The majority of the Park Loop Road, (which includes the road up to Cadillac Mountain) closes from the beginning of December through mid April, plus other times when weather makes the conditions too dangerous.

Visitors Centers at Acadia National Park

Hull Coves Visitor Center – is open throughout the summer but closed from 1 November through mid April.  Between mid April and the end of June the opening hours are between 8am and 4.30pm, staying open until 6pm for July and August, closing at 5pm in September and back to the 4.30pm closing time during October.

Park Headquarters / Winter Visitors Center – the clue here is in the name, this Acadia National Park visitor center is open all year, 8am – 4.3opm Monday through to Friday, but closed on weekends. If you’re planning to visit Acadia National Park on a holiday day it might not be open either, even if the day falls mid-week, so check it out if it’s important to you. Call (207) 288-3338 for up to date info.

Thompson Island Information Center – this Acadia National Park visitor center is open from the middle of May until the middle of October, but unlike the very precise operating hours of the Hulls Cove Visitor Center, hours are variable.

Just a little snapshot of what to expect at the glorious Acadia National Park.

Museums at Acadia National Park

Islesford Historical Museum – is open from late in June until September, but closed between the months of October and the end of June. Monday to Saturday opening hours are 9am – 12pm and 12.30pm – 3.30pm, and on Sundays it’s open from 10.45am – 12pm and 12.30pm – 3.30pm.

Sieur de Monts Nature Center – is open from May until early in October, but closed between October (either on or just after Columbus Day) until April.  The opening hours do vary during May, from June through August it’s open between 9am and 5pm and closes at 4pm during September and October.

Isn’t it just awesome? You’ve gotta’ go, you’ve just gotta’ . . .

Campgrounds on Acadia National Park

I’ll go into a little more detail on the fees & reservations page, but for now, here are a few details about Acadia National Park campgrounds operating hours and seasons.

Blackwoods Campground – this campground is open all year round, but is only available for walk-in camping between the beginning of December and the end of March, when you will need a permit.

Seawall Campground – is open for business from late in May until the end of September.

Duck Harbor Campground, Isle au Haut – is open mid May until mid October, you will need a permit to camp at Duck Harbor Campground.

Nice place huh . . . and it changes every time you go, depending on the time of the day and the season. Amazing!
