Possibly the most famous river of the Wild West, just the name Rio Grande can conjure up images of John Wayne telling some gun slinging cowpoke to get off their horse and drink their milk – classic.

Big Bend National Park offers a freedom which you can’t find in many places of the world, this vast area of more than 800,000 is a hikers paradise, but don’t underestimate the power of the sun in Big Bend National Park. Hikers have been known to die in this unforgiving desert, take plenty of water with you and don’t over estimate your own abilities. The spring and the fall offer warm, pleasant weather, the summers are scorching hot and the winters are mild but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any snow and ice to deal with.  When you visit the Big Bend National Park, you must be prepared.
