Directions to Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is in northeastern Ohio, stretching along 22 miles of the Cuyahoga River which winds it’s way through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Whether you travel to these 33,000 glorious acres by bus, train, plane or automobile, you’re gonna’ need a few directions on how to get there, so here goes.

Driving to Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Akron, Ohio and other southerly points – take the I-77 northwards, then keep left to switch to the OH-8 North via exit 125A heading towards Cuyahoga Falls for around 12 and a half miles, then take the Boston Mill Road/Hines Hill Road at exit 14A, turn right at the end of the exit to Boston Mills Road and head west for around 3 and a half miles. You should spot the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Visitor Center on the left (it’s white with a wrap around porch) and a couple of hundred feet further on is the parking lot at the entrance to the park.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Cleveland, Ohio and other northerly points – Head south on the I-77 for around 15.5 miles until exit 147 onto Miller Road, then turn left at the end of this exit onto Miller Road for a little more than half a mile, next turn right onto OH-21 / Brecksville Road for a little less than half a mile, left onto Snowville Road for 2.8 miles, right onto Riverview Road for 1.7 miles, left onto Boston Mills Road until you reach the Visitor Center parking lot entrance around 300 feet further on.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Columbus, Ohio and other southwesterly points – head north on the I-71, then merge onto the I-271 north toward Erie, PA, via exit 220, head on the OH-303 exit 12 towards Richfield Peninsula, then take a right turn onto West Streetsboro Road / OH-303 for a little less than 2 miles. At the first light turn left onto Riverview Road for 1.6 miles, then right onto Boston Mills Road where you’ll find the Visitor Center parking lot entrance around 300 feet along.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Toledo, Ohio and other westerly points – head out on the I-80/I-90/ Ohio Turnpike east, before merging onto I-80 east via the exit towards Cleveland, Portions Toll, for 108 miles, then take I-77 exit 173 toward Cleveland / Akron for half a mile before taking the OH-21 exit towards Richfield / Breckville for 0.2 miles, left onto OH-21/Breckville Road for a little less than a mile, right onto Snowville Road for a little less than 3 miles, before turning right onto Riverview Road for a further 1.7 miles. Turn left onto Boston Mills Road and you’ll come across the entrance to the Visitor Center parking lot 300 feet down the road on the right hand side.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Youngstown, Ohio and other easterly points – head out on the I – 80 West for 42.7 miles, then merge onto the OH-8 South at exit 180. Join the Boston Mills Road, Hines Hill Ramp on the right, then turn left at the light onto Boston Mills Road driving west for a further 3.2 miles. The visitor center is on your left, with the entrance to the parking lot 200 feet further along, right after the MD garage.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park from Mentor, Ohio and other north easterly points – head out on the I-90 West for around 7 miles, then keep left to take the I-271 south for 21.4 miles, via exit 188. Merge roads onto the OH-8 South left via exit 18A towards Boston Hts / Akron. When you reach exit 15 take the Boston Mills Road / Hines Hill Road, then turn right onto Boston Mills Road at the second light, keep west for around 3.2 miles until you reach the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Visitor Center on the left, the entrance to the Visitor Center parking lot is 200 feet further along.

Well, that’s the general directions from the general directions . . . here are a few examples of the actual driving distance from a selection of major cities to the visitor center at Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

  • Cleveland, OH – the 22 mile distance will take around 30 minutes to drive.
  • Akron, OH – is only 18 miles away, better allow around 25 minutes driving time.
  • Columbus, OH – the 129 mile drive will take around 2.2 hours.
  • Cincinnati, OH – is 230 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park, around a 4 hour journey.
  • Pittsburgh, PA – the 113 miles journey will take around 2 hours.
  • Chicago, IL – allow 6 hours for this 351 mile journey.
  • Indianapolis, IN – is 310 miles away, around a 5 hour journey.
  • Charlestown, WV – the 232 mile drive will take approximately 4 hours.

Traveling to Cuyahoga Valley National Park by Plane

The nearest airports to Cuyahoga Valley National Park are Cleveland Hopkins International Airport or the Akron-Canton Regional Airport . . . there are lots of daily flights to the area, and from there you can hire a car to continue your journey to Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Traveling to Cuyahoga Valley National Park by Bus or Train

There are bus stations in downtown Akron and Cleveland, plus an Amtrak station in downtown Cleveland.
