Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve is kind of like an inland beach in places, with wonderful golden sand dunes (of course) with creeks and streams ready to bathe, splash and have fun – well, in the summer time anyway. It’s a great place to build sandcastles, slide down the sand dunes (a bit of sand-surfing if you please), watch the birds (of the feathered variety) or climb a mountain, it’s really up to you. Much of the water began life as tundra snowfields, and as it melts – you have the lifeblood of the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve running through the tallest sand dunes in the whole of North America.
Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve isn’t just an overgrown beach though, there are forests, alpine lakes, wetlands, grasslands and mountains surrounding the preserve – you really do have it all on a trip here.
Well if Roy’s up for it, what’s stopping you?
It’s good fun in the winter time too . . .
