Lassen Volcanic National Park is one of the few places on earth where you can witness exactly how the earth was shaped, by forces of both destruction and creation. Lassen Volcanic National Park has beautiful mountain forests, but their peacefulness can be broken by the hissing fumaroles and mud pots boiling which continue to shape the land to this day. The hydrothermal features which are found at Lassen Volcanic National Park are just one of the reasons why visitors flock to this area, they truly are amazing.

Lassen Peak erupted almost 100 years ago, in 1915, with a force so powerful that the effects were felt 200 miles away – it’s raining ash, hallelujah it’s raining ash – I know it should be men, but it really was raining ash all those miles away.

So what about the weather? How should you dress? Well, let’s see, winters are very cold and the snow starts as early as October (even though it’s still fall to the rest of us), and very often doesn’t melt until the following July – hey, you could build a long-lasting snowman couldn’t you?  The summer offers warm days, cool nights, blue skies and less chance of rain – but you’d better be prepared anyway – just in case.

Did I mention it’s great for ski-ing? No? Well, it is . . .

Isn’t that weird? It’s like something is trying to escape . . .

Beautiful isn’t it?
