Are you afraid to enter the Petrified Forest? Well don’t be, it’s fine. Petrified really means turned to stone, not scared to death, so this place is where you can go to find out about fossils and dinosaurs – nothing scary about that is there?  Just take a look at the picture if you don’t believe me. The dinosaurs are long gone, Jurassic Park was a fictional story – it’s not real. Right, I’m glad that’s sorted out.

Petrified Forest National Park is one the most colorful, largest collections of petrified wood, making this site extremely important archeologically. Some of the fossils here are more than 200 million years old – making it a truly fascinating site. In the Petrified Forest National Park you’ll be able to witness the Painted Desert, archeological sites, historic structures and native grassland, as well as the fantastic fossils of more than 200 different plants and animals, giving a real insight into the life of the Petrified Forest National Park, before it was petrified. It’s also a great place to hike, ride your horse, ride your bicycle or simply take a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Summers at the park are hot, with the real risk of thunderstorms, the Petrified Forest National Park is pretty high too, which means that in the winter it gets cold with a chance of snow. In the spring and fall it can lie one way or the other, or somewhere in between. The bottom line – be prepared for changing weather conditions.
