Wrangell-St Elias National Park & Preserve is the largest national park in America, covering a total area of 32,000 km2 – you can really lose yourself in Wrangell St Elias, for a long time . . . this place covers more area than Vermont and Rhode Island combined. Despite it’s size there are only two roads which really penetrate the park, Nabesna and McCarthy – with views to die for. This place really is a wilderness in the truest sense of the word, the wilderness among all wildernesses – alright, enough already, it’s very remote.

Wrangell-St Elias National Park & Preserve, being largely wilderness (here we go again), is just perfect for all of those back country activities that so many people yearn for, particularly after urban living has got to them every now and then. Be warned though, you’ll be largely on your own so need to be able to look after yourself and accept responsibility – having said that, you can climb the mountains, ski the glaciers and float along the rivers to your hearts content – be prepared, prepared to have fun. A trip to Wrangell-St Elias National Park & Preserve is like nowhere else – camp, hike, climb, fish, hunt, kayak or fly to a back-country airstrip – this great big wilderness is just waiting for you to explore it.
