Directions to Zion National Park

I suppose you’ve already gathered that Zion National Park, Utah’s oldest national park is in Utah, but where exactly, and how do you find it? Let’s take a look.

Zion National Park can be found on State Route 9, Springdale, Utah. Here are a few distances and traveling directions for you to enjoy a visit to Zion National Park from different areas of the country, in particular from some of the other wonderful National Parks around the United States.

The mileages shown are the distance to the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, just in case you were wondering.

Traveling to Zion National Park by Car

  • From Las Vegas, Nevada, which is a distance of 163 miles, Mesquite, Nevada (80 miles) or Saint George in Utah (40 miles) – take Interstate 15 north until exit 16, then head right on state route 9 east for 33 miles, right to stay on that route in La Verkin, Utah (another 20 miles), then stay on state route 9 east right to Zion National Park.
  • From Salt Lake City, Utah, (307 miles away), or Cedar City, Utah, which is only 57 miles away – take interstate 15 south, at exit 27 head left on state route 17 south for 26 miles, then left on state route 9 east in La Verkin, Utah for 20 miles, then, as above, stay on state route 9 east until you reach Zion National Park.
  • From Page, Arizona (118 miles) or Kanab, Utah (a distance of 45 miles) – head on US route 89 north, then left onto state route 9 west in Mount Carmel Junction, Utah, in 24 miles, simply stay on route 9 west to Zion National Park, you’ll find the Zion Canyon Visitor Center on the left, around 12 miles further on.

  • From Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, 86 miles away. Head out on state route 63 north, the left onto state route 12 west at 81 miles, left onto US route 89 south at 67 miles and right onto state route 9 west in Mount Carmel Junction, Utah, at 24 miles. Keep on this route into Zion National Park.
  • From Grand Canyon National Park, North Rim, Arizona, a distance of 126 miles. Starting out on state route 67 north, then head left onto US route 89A north at 78 miles, left onto state route 9 west in Mount Carmel Junction, Utah, at 24 miles. Keep on this route to Zion National Park, the visitors center is 12 miles further on the left.
  • From Grand Canyon National Park, South Rim, Arizona, a distance of 253 miles. Head out on state route 64 east, then left onto route 89 north at Cameron, Arizona at 192 miles, then left onto state route 9 west in Mount Carmel Junction, Utah, before staying on this route until you reach Zion National Park. The visitor center is 12 miles further up the road on the left.

Traveling to Zion National Park by Plane

Of course you can’t fly directly to Zion National Park, but there are a number of international airports, plus regional airports which can get you pretty close.

International Airports 

  • Las Vegas, Nevada is only 170 miles away
  • Salt Lake City, Utah is 311 miles from Zion National Park

Regional Airports

  • Saint George, Utah – 49 miles – you can fly here from Salt Lake City, Utah and Los Angeles, California
  • Cedar City, Utah – 60 miles – with flights from Salt Lake City, Utah

NB – Large Vehicle Warning

Any vehicles which are 11’4″ high and 7′ 10″ wide or more, must have an escort or traffic control to be permitted through the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. That includes stuff like awnings, mirrors and jacks, you’ve got to get a tunnel permit for your safety and the safety of other tunnel users.
