Catoctin Mountain Park has more than 25 miles of wonderful hiking trails, with a map to make sure that you don’t take a wrong turn. But if you thought that Catoctin Mountain Park was just full of mountains, you’d be wrong. Of course, mountains are a big feature (that’s why it’s called a mountain park) but there’s a whole lot more to it than that.  Apart from offering terrific hiking and camping opportunities, there is also a very active and successful wildlife program going on – managing the White-Tailed Deer.  At the beginning of last century the White-Tailed Deer was very rare in Maryland, but these days there are more of them than ever before – how do you like that for a success story. Keep your eyes peeled while you’re hiking, you might just spot one or two.

Catoctin Mountain Park weather is pretty seasonal, the summers are generally warm, the winters cold and snowy, and the spring and fall somewhere in between. Watch out for unpredictable weather though, the whole world seems to be very good at throwing in the unexpected these days.
