Fort Washington Park has silently defended the Capital for more than 180 years.  It was actually the only permanent fort which was built to defend the Nation’s Capital from riverside intruders, so if your plan was to invade on the water of the Potomac River – bad luck. Well, thankfully Fort Washington Park is now more concerned with invasions of picnickers, hikers, bikers, people with fishing rods and binoculars, yes, it’s a fantastic place to getaway from it all so close to the Capital. Fort Washington Park is a very welcome area of peace and quiet away from the urban hustle and bustle.

What a great idea, Father’s Day. Or alternatively you can visit on Mother’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, public holidays or just any other time you fancy a great day out . . .
