Greenbelt Park

  • Where is it?: – Greenbelt, MDPark
  • Recreation Activities: Biking · Camping · Educational Programs · Hiking · Horseback Riding · Wildlife Viewing

Greenbelt Park is a haven of peace and tranquility, only twelve miles from Washington DC. You can visit for the day, take a picnic, take a hike, get on your bike, or alternatively you can camp in the tranquil camp site for just $16 per night (all prices correct at time of going to press – I’ve always wanted to say that, even though technically speaking this hasn’t actually “gone to press”). Anyway, if  you want to get out of the city for a couple of nights to somewhere affordable, peaceful and altogether heavenly, Greenbelt Park is the place for you.  Camping at Greenbelt Park is a kind of mixture between back-country camping and luxury – there are no electrical or water hook-ups but there are hot shower facilities – plumbing is essential for some of us, even when we are “getting away from it all”.

Greenbelt Park offers four hiking trails, mostly only around a mile long although the Perimeter Trail is more than 5 miles. Three main picnic areas in Greenbelt Park are also available (although some of them do need to be reserved in advance).

Greenbelt Park is open all year round. The summers are hot, can be humid with a real threat of afternoon thunderstorms, winters can be cold with a real possibility of snow – the best idea is to be prepared for whatever the weather might throw at you.

Sorry about the video, visitors to Greenbelt Park are obviously more interested in having fun than shooting videos! This is about the best I can find. Let’s look at something completely different . . .

Let me make this very clear – you will NOT see any whales at Greenbelt Park . . .

I repeat – THERE ARE NO WHALES AT GREENBELT PARK . . .  but they are awesome aren’t they?
